Biography
Balraj Gopal graduated from the National University of Singapore, earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Hons) degree. Despite his academic training, he decided to pursued his passion in music and has developed into a performer and writer of guitar ensemble music. He has since acquired a diploma in Classical Guitar Performance (LRSM) and a Licentiate in Music Theory (LMusTCL).
He studied classical guitar with Ernest Kwok and has participated in masterclasses by Professor Koyama from the Niibori Academy in Japan and Jozsef Eotvos from Hungary. From long-time mentor and teacher, Maestro Alex Abisheganaden, Balraj learned the mechanics and working principles of a guitar orchestra. Maestro Alex has been pivotal in developing Balraj's style of arranging and composing music for a guitar orchestra.

Welcome to my website.
I have been actively involved in guitar ensembles and guitar orchestras in Singapore for the past ten years, and it has been a most uplifting and memorable journey.
I have taught many students of various ages over the years and together, we have produced some very interesting ensemble music. The art of arranging and composing for a guitar ensemble is a challenging but rewarding activity, and I keep striving to improve with each new arrangement. Some of my students have also gone on to arrange ensemble music of their own. This is something I always try to encourage and nurture.Aside from my work with guitar ensembles, I am also a performing musician who is adept at both classical and contemporary pop music.
